Custom Mahogany Chess Table

This chess table is made from real hardwoods(no veneers). The main table and legs are mahogany. The border is maple, and the squares are mahogany and red oak. It is finished with several coats of Danish oil and a protective urethane/oiltop coat. The drawer is lined with red felt. The shape of the tabletop is carried throughout the table design - the legs and the drawer handle.

What really sets this table apart is the grain of the playing area. Notice the opposing diagonal grains, instead of the easy-to-manufacturing vertical running grain. Again, these are solid wood squares, not veneer.
